There are infinite inspirations for artistic creation and sophisticated faux finishes.
As an artist and decorative painter, I receive my inspirations from things that often get scraped, redone or overlooked like: peeling paint, metallic sheen, texture, architectural detail, and Nature, just to name a few among many. I am fascinated with trying to replicate that which often is produced by age, wear-and-tear as well as exceeding detail and fine craftsmanship. This latter sentence is somewhat of a dichotomy but it takes professional know how and talent to mimic that which is organic. It’s called The Faux Effect, as quite well described in Veranda’s March 2011 issue.
As a wallcovering designer, I’m also inspired by wallcoverings, that’s why I was struck with the beautiful examples that are noted here in this feature layout. I love how they are described: Trompel’oeil wallpapers that mirror the look and feel of handcrafted finishes and natural textures are clever substitutes for the real deal. These sophisticated faux finishes below are gorgeous!

At one time, I’ve painted just about all these finishes or they are on my list to do, like cork and ostrich and shagreen (sharkskin). Crocodile is also on my list but there hasn’t been enough time lately.

Time after time, these wallpaper companies have produced exceptional examples of truly fantastic designs and these organic ones top the cake for me. Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to take these down and reuse once installed or at least know that there will not be damage to your walls in the process? Unfortunately, these are all traditional wallpaper, installed with traditional wallpaper methods, glue, paste and hassle but you can hire a professional wallpaper hanger to do it for you. Don’t forget to add that to the already expensive cost.
Fortunately, we have a few Casart sophisticated faux finishes, where if you’re going to invest the cost in decorative painting, you might as well consider having it already done for you on a removable and reusable wallcovering. No glue, mess or hassle is involved and it is an easy do-it-yourself installation to boot. I’m a practical person, so if I’m going to pay a decorative painter to paint something so beautiful, why not treat it with care like art for your home and as an investment that you can take with you when and wherever you like?
Here are just a few of our sophisticated faux finishes from our Organics Collection. Don’t see a color you like, just ask us and we can customize our wallcovering for you. That’s the other benefit of having decorative finishes painted and then printed. They can be customized to any color, the options are truly endless and the creative inspirations for new designs are limitless.
