I had an idea, a working title called Know Your Comfort Zone and Don’t Monkey Around and a rough draft when I opened Houzz and read Erika Ward’s ideabook, Find Your Style, which stole my thunder. If you saw it, you’ll enjoy re-visiting photos here. If you didn’t, you’re in for a treat when you read it.
She used 8 pictures of white rooms to define casual, cool, contemporary, country, coastal, colonial and cultural styles.
Here are the pictures for casual, country and contemporary. Well, you get the idea…no color to distract you, just style from which to select.

No matter which of the 8 C-styles the reader decides to own, another C must be factored in… the Comfort level. For example, you could decide to have a very clean style for the nursery. You may think that purple is the perfect color for the little princess-to-be, but consider how long before she and you will tire of it and what you can do to change accessories for a more sophisticated look. You have to be comfortable with your choice.
Whatever you do, know your comfort zone and don’t monkey around to try to make what appears fabulous on the walls of a Park Avenue penthouse have the same effect in your family room. Know your comfort zone!
