This is a tongue-in-cheek post with a dose of serious gratitude and a little side of humor.
Thanksgiving is tomorrow.
We want to pay homage to the bird that brings us all together, particularly as we each sit down to a communal table with our own ideologies, like feathers in a cap, that might not match the coat of many colors worn by those next to us.
Even though birds of a feather flock together we are all birds on a wire, balancing as best we can.
We hope you like birds like we do, because here’s our ode with some music to lighten the mood.
I like Birds – Eels from Mac Wu on Vimeo.
We think of our large bird friends, like the Flight of the Conchords as they make their trek south this winter with their own Issues.
We think of a Canary in a Cold Mine and how their job is hard and wish we could take them under our wing, but it is best to set them free so they can be a Freebird.
We think that even our best bird-brain cousins might not have the best bird’s eye view but they eat like birds, so more for us!
Regardless of our differences, this is the time of year that old buzzards, wise old owls, mother hens, geese who have ganders, all gather together, recalling our fond childhood memories of Mother Goose, ugly ducklings and chicken littles, to pay tribute to the big turkey that brought us here.
Why? Because in this time of divisiveness, we celebrate our differences, just like our Pilgrim and Indian ancestors and try to get along, even for an hour or two (hopefully longer).
We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving with extra servings of gratitude.
In the end, we can Put a Bird on It — just make sure it’s a dove for Peace.
(Now you have an Ode to the Bird playlist for your meal too 😉
