It’s still January and we’ve already experienced an arctic freeze. With most of winter still ahead, you may want to enjoy it in style at one of the coolest cold weather hotels that offer the warmest experiences.
Managing the cold can be fun as long as you can stay internally warm but what if you could also experience Nature at its most pristine?
The Bubble Igloo Hut in Iceland fills this space. It gets a 5-star rating, btw.

While in Iceland be sure to see Gullfoss waterfall and the Blue Lagoon. The views are exceptional. The warmth of the Blue Lagoon is rejeuvenating. If that feeling could only be bottled…

You can test the Igloo Bubble for viewing the Aurora Borealis while on this Golden Circle Tour.

Although, not an “outdoor experience” hotel, while in Iceland, you may want to try the Canopy in Reykjavik. Its throw-back, mid-century theme makes it hip and chic and one of the most copied for that “boutique homey essence” that other hotel chains want to mimic, particularly with a hygge apppeal.

You would never know this hotel is a Hilton or that the recent one that opened in DC is also. These hotels offer experiences beyond just an overnight stay. Both have bicycles and are strategically located in areas of the city with plenty of things to do. The DC Wharf Canopy has igloo rooftop seating stations at their Whiskey Charlie Bar for expansive viewing of the waterfront on the coldest of days.

We experienced it on a cold, crisp day when the wind was blowing too hard to put up the igloos.
Tip: For extra warmth, their WC Mainstay drink is exceptional and sliders are some of the best!
It’s either the Bubble Igloo in Iceland or other top places to stay and watch the Northern Lights.
Like in Finland, where the heated glass igloo Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort is located, described on Thrillist.

Igloos can also be made of wood, like this Igloo Hotel in Sorrisniva, Norway.

If you don’t want to leave the States, try Alaska at the Alyeska Resort.

And if enjoying the cozy warmth with notalgia while you know it is freezing outside is your cup of tea, you can always experience this sensation while visiting historic National Park accommodations, like the Old Faithful Lodge in Yellowstone. The dining room is wonderful.

Wherever you stay in one of these coolest cold hotels, you’ll be happy and no longer feeling any winter freeze.
In the meantime, if you are traveling outside, please take care to be prepared for freezing.
This Podcast from Outside Magazine is “chilling” and will make you remember how easily it can happen. (Scroll to the bottom to listen to Episode 1, #55 on the list)

Also, don’t run in the cold either. Just watch the movie Wind River, and you’ll see what can happen in severe cold. Stay warm. Stay safe and enjoy the cold by checking into one of the coolest cold hotels.
