A working solution for a non-working day. Happy Labor Day!!
This was an inspiring article in the Washington Post, reviewing the latest design apps that help you get the most out of designing and decorating for your home. Here’s the link to the article above and a quick summary below.
Inspiration: Houzz was mentioned as the #1 place to go. We agree! They also have a Kid’s Rooms app, which I did not know about but my kids are all grown, so not in that frame of mind at present. Surprisingly, the article did not mention Houzz’s new Renovation Design Tool that I wrote about in a previous post. It helps give renovation rates based on location as well as professionals to help. (Free iOS and Android)
Floorplans: Home3D for creating them ($3.99 for iOS)
Keeping Track of Measurements: My Measures & Dimensions app. This would be useful for having those measurements on hand when you need them for comparison shopping for washing machines, for instance. This is what I’m looking for now. We have such an old house that I will to the dimensions before purchasing to see if the appliance can not only fit in our space, but through our doorway. ($2.99 – $5.99 Pro and syncing versions for iOS and Android)
Try it before you buy it: Furnish app lets you browse through current Crate & Barrel and Pottery Barn furniture offerings and then overlay them over photos that you’ve taken of your room. The Home Depot mobile app is supposedly very similar. (Free for iOS and Android)
Color: Color Capture from Benjamin Moore allows you to find a BM color to match items in your home photo. (Free for iOS and Android). We’ve mentioned these previously as well.
DIY help: HandyManDIY app is the one stop source for storing measurements, shopping lists, tutorials and helps with estimating how much a project might cost. ($1.99 for iOS)
So…while you’re still sitting on the beach, you can now let your fingers do the designing and without even getting up from that beach chair.
