2012 is the Year of the Dragon; one of the most revered of the Chinese New Year calendar. Those born under the sign are regarded as innovative, passionate people who are colorful, confident, quick-tempered, enterprising, flexible and fearless. Dragon years have elements of earth, fire, wood, metal and water. This year is associated with water. Things happen quickly, as with a rushing river and not like a calm lake or pond. This serpent brings progression, riches and abundance, but it can also bring about unpredictable, sudden events especially associated with water, like floods. Unlike the dragon in Western culture that is slain by St. George, the Eastern reptile is considered a symbol of good fortune and power.
Traditional Home’s February/March 2012 issue pays design homage to the Year of the Dragon with everything from teapots to earrings.

I like these spiny serpents, but tend to incorporate trends like that on a small scale. Here are some of my associated possessions.

Perhaps a cup of Dragonwell tea in the garden will motivate me to try to finish reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo again.

I wonder if Angelina Jolie has one. She does! In fact she has two; both are partially covered by two other tattoos amongst her more than a dozen! Amazing the things you learn writing a post! I guess I really should try once more to read the book if I’m going to keep in step with the dragon.
2013 will be the Year of the Water Snake. I can hardly wait!
Although we don’t have snakes or reptiles in our wallcovering designs, yet, we do have a depiction of China and Asian Cultures that revere this beast.
