Despite the outcome of the upcoming election being unclear and the political tide being murky, you can bet on bold and bright color forecasts for 2013. It’s actually an ongoing trend that is getting more play in interior design.
Here are some recent sources for color forecasts:
1) D+D or Design and Durability: Forecasts contrasting colors with jewel tones, chartreuse (for green living) and the fashionable palette of the runway — “All ways to explore extremes and opposites in design…[with people being] attracted to color palettes that are different from what they find in their daily environment.”

2) The article above quotes the go-to-color-source, The Pantone Color Institute, which recently offered its take on home and interiors for 2013 with palettes with these concepts in mind: Glamour, New Old School, Rugged Individuals, Extracts, Footprints, Sojourn, Surface Treatments and Out of the Ordinary.
In order to create the “magic” in the market place that ultimately leads to sales, colors for 2013 will need to coax and cajole, soothe or astonish, renew and replenish. At the same time, there will be the consumer’s expectation of practicality – which colors will have staying power and can be relied upon as a steadying influence in unsteady times.
Here’s are just two examples of our newly offered MoRockAnSoul wallcovering Collection that boasts bold, unexpected color options that like the Pantone Extract palette are spicy, exotic, playful and also Out of the Ordinary. Plus, these can be removed and reused anytime.
3) Another source quoted is the Dunn-Edwards Corp, citing “Yellow and variations of yellow are expected to be big in design in 2013,” according to Sara McLean, their color expert and blogger. They base their color predictions on a return to simplicity, Renaissance revival of nostalgia and the industrial age where reusing and re-inventing items with respectful reflection on aged finishes is highly regarded. Embracing imperfection and individuality is a good thing (although, maybe not as Martha might say). Mismatching, Bohemian lifestyle and “High-class kitsch accessories and art will be popular.” Their color palette prediction can be summed up by four key trends: Simply Re-invented, Simply Re-newal, Simply Re-imagined, and Simply Re-vival, all spurred by a “period of pessimism and nostalgia for the mid-20th century” and getting back to simpler times; even though, this is a major time of innovation.
4) The article goes on to describe color trend predictions for six other paint companies: Diamond Vogel, Yolo Colorhouse, Pratt & Lambert, California Paints, Behr Pro and Kelly-Moore. The basic buzz is catering color to today’s lifestyle of the end user. 73% of D+D readers care about color trends.
5) Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2013 is Lemon Sorbet, because it is “the perfect transitional color between the mid-tones and saturated colors seen in today’s home furnishings…Uplifting without being overpowering, [and] complements almost any color palette and provides a unifying element for diverse spaces.” Dare I say it could be the new “colored” neutral that works as a wonderful balancing-backdrop to highlight artwork. It also makes me think of a twist in the saying, “when given lemons, make….sorbet!”

Here’s our version, which also brings in soft texture from the hand-painted faux linen from which our repositionable, removable and reusable wallcovering was originally derived.
