The weather’s getting cooler and it’s time to think about grabbing some popcorn and snuggling up next to a fire or watching a football game on TV. Browsing through the October Country Living, I saw an article about a young couple who think outside the bag with big dreams about their own popcorn company offering a healthy makeover to the microwavable snack.

While Kristy Lewis was on maternity leave she began experimenting with the best corn, oils, seasonings, plus compostable, chemical-free bags. She named both her baby and the company Quinn.

In 2011, she pitched Quinn Popcorn to a nearby Whole Foods. Kristy says, “Despite being a huge company, Whole Foods is very supportive of small producers.” Now the chain stocks the popcorn at 28 other locations and provided a $25,000 loan. Kristy’s husband, Coulter, left his product-design job this May to help full time. Current flavors include Parmesan and rosemary, Vermont maple and sea salt, as well as lemon and sea salt. The couple brings trial batches to farmers’ market to assure real feedback and expect to add new flavors in early 2013.
“When you have an idea, don’t be afraid to run with it.
Just take one small step after another”
Coulter Lewis
This is the same spirit we have at Casart Coverings. I’d add to Coulter’s advice,
Don’t let anyone discourage you from dreaming and dream big.
It’s the American way!
