Now I know you are wondering, “What does a lion the hog and courage have to do with wallcovering?” Let me explain.
I received the Harley-Davidson Annual Report (don’t worry, this grandmother doesn’t ride a Hog but I know a good stock when I see one!) and saw this statement on the cover. “Courage. You can call it character. You can call it determination. Or you can just call it guts. But courage changes everything. It’s the stuff that gives you the confidence to power forward, seize the road and live your dream. And it’s at the heart of every hard decision.” Still wondering?

It made me think about the way Casart Coverings started. My daughter Ashley had an idea to expand her artistic talents. She researched it, fleshed out all the particulars and then approached her also artistically talented sister, Lindsey, and me and we both jumped on board. It was a learning experience for all of us. We had never been in business together.
Was it easy? No, but it was interesting and challenging. There were bumps in the road. Some aspects went smoothly, some did not. Sometimes good ideas required rethinking and a different approach. My daughters had to learn about digital printing and its related terminology, and many additional computer programs. I took on the challenge of attending the huge Specialty Graphic Imaging Association meeting, registered for seminars and learned about substrates, inks, and printers as I walked the entire exhibit hall in my comfortable walking shoes gathering information and samples. We all had the courage, determination and belief in our product’s uniqueness to persevere and make the business a reality.
Simran Khurana suggests that you find the lion within you. ”Remember the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz? The concept completely overturned the typical belief that lions are brave. That unique and subtle message teaches us that no matter how great someone is, no matter how fearful they appear to be, they too are bound to have fear. Each one of us has our own set of fears that stop us from attaining our true potential.
If you find that you lack the courage to take that little step forward, here are some courage quotes below to motivate you.
Maybe if the cowardly lion had read some of these courage quotes he would not have to go all the way to Oz to find his courage.
Here are the quotations Professor Khurana selected:
- Everyone has a talent, what is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads. – Erica Jong
- Whether you be man or woman you will never do anything in this world without courage. – James Allen
- Courage is simply the willingness to be afraid and act anyway. – Robert Anthony
- Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear – not absence of fear. – Mark Twain
- Courage is the art of being the only one who knows you’re scared to death. – Harold Wilson
- Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience. – Paulo Coelho
- Courage is going from failure to failure without losing enthusiasm. – Winston Churchill
And my favorite…
Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says… I’ll try again tomorrow. – Mary Anne Radmacher-Hershey
With all this in mind, it seems only fitting that the lion the hog and courage all have something to do with one another for the start of our wallcovering business. We appreciate their characteristics.
