Since this is the first day of October, that bewitching month, it seems appropriate to mention some of the devices in the decorating bag of tricks.
So, first things first:
pelmet – a short valance or small cornice for concealing curtain fixtures
parapluie – umbrella (Fr.)
cornice – a decorative band of metal or wood used to conceal curtain fixtures
lambrequin – a short decorative drapery for a shelf edge or for the top of a window casing
valance – a short drapery or wood or metal frame used as a decorative heading to conceal the top of curtains and fixtures
slipcover – a cover that may be slipped off and on
Here are a few examples.

Treatments can be simpler and achieve the same effect. I’m not sure if these are made of fabric or wood.

Now, a parapluie is an entirely different thing!

Yes, because it can be applied and removed and reused, Casart wallcovering can be a slipcover for your walls or your stairs or many other places you can think to slipcover-a door, a window, a cabinet, a decorative box, etc., etc.
In the September issue of Southern Living, Atlanta designer Jackye Lanham suggests that siipcovers are the secret to a comfortable Southern room because they allow you to swap your look seasonally and I agree!
Use your imagination and cast a spell with any of the illustrated decorative tricks like parapluie and more!
