This make your walls sing post is a follow-up to last Friday’s post about a wallpaper book written by Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz last fall. It’s very interesting reading, but out of necessity, a start and stop process. After all, it’s large. Measuring 10” x 13” and over an inch thick, it’s also heavy. It’s not the kind of book you’d take to read at the hair salon or pop into your carry-on for a flight reading. I just completed it and here of some things Ms. Thibaut-Pomerantz says about wallpaper in conclusion.
· “Originally, paper’s relatively inexpensive price compared to other materials was of prime importance in its choice. But as soon as wallpaper transcended mere imitation and developed its own originality and characteristics, it took this new mural art to another level-that of the finest engraving.”
· It isn’t necessary to have large walls to use wallpaper. “As soon as a panel is hung in a small or narrow room, it creates an illusion of depth and expands the sense of space. And if a room lacks luminosity, these papers introduce light.”
· “Wallpaper, whether it is historic or contemporary, should therefore not be treated as simple rolls to cover walls, but rather as an object that can be hung, moved, or adapted.”
· “Once it is perceived as an art object, wallpaper takes on an entirely new role and dimension. In dialogue with other decorative elements, it becomes a new type of mural design. This is when wallpaper acquires new impact: it becomes the pivot or point of departure of the decoration of an interior, giving it particular originality.”
· “Today, wallpaper creations introduce a new spirit, surrealistic or conceptual, sometimes playful and often unique. There is something to suit everyone’s taste.”
· “A veritable objet d’art due to the manner in which it is conceived and produced, easy to use and perfectly adapted to our constantly changing world, …it is a means of expressing individual personality in private spaces.”
· And finally, “It would appear that wallpaper is once again in the spirit of the time. The importance given to personal homes, the taste for interior decoration and its renewed remodeling take on an increasing role in today’s lifestyle: wallpaper, all on its own, brings life and color, and as Paul Valery so aptly put it, makes “the walls sing”.”
We, at Casart Coverings, have tried to be mindful of many of Ms. Thibaut-Pomerantz’ observations. The cost of wallcovering is less than having a decorative painter render a mural or a decorative finish. Additionally, Casart does not require professional installation, does not require paste, can be easily repositioned, removed, reused and cleaned. All features which make it more economical as well as eco-friendly. Customization of color and size of Casart wallcovering is possible and you can even upload your personal photo for ultimate personalization. It is an ideal product for renters or for homeowners who want a temporary or seasonal design statement and want their walls to “sing.”
