Carrying it All with Hurricane Katrina in Mind
If you haven’t heard already in the news, August 29 and this week is the 5th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. With my partners and I originally being from New Orleans, we don’t want to burden our readers in carrying it all with too much weight with this but we’d like to make note of this important anniversary and commemorate it with something positive — something that will help Gulf Coast Recovery (from the BP oil spill) and shore up our marshes and wetlands to help prevent further potential disasters.
We have a new Casart Carryall shoulder bag and tote that we will unveil on our website this week but you are the first to learn about it here. They are practical, carrying it all with the items you want to cart. They are also for a good cause. 10% of proceeds from purchases from these Carryalls and all our designs will go to one of two charities of your choice to help with Gulf Coast Recovery. Our Gulf Coast Recovery page has all of the details. Wherever you see our crab icon (left sidebar and on our website) is another way to get to our link for this effort.
Here are the prototype images for our Carryall bags.

These photos below are of the actual shoulder bag. This Carryall is 16″(L) x 4.5″(W) x 10.5″(H) with double 21″ long, black leather shoulder-straps and a black leather bottom. The outer material is wipeable polyester and printed with a dye sublimation process to prevent cracking, peeling or discoloring. The interior has a black nylon lining with three inner pockets and a zipper top closure. I brought it with me on my recent travels and was happy to receive many unsolicited compliments. It can be reversible with separate images on each side or the same image or overall pattern on both sides. We want to offer a lot of flexibility. The Canvas Tote Carryall is 19″ x 14″ x 4.5″ and machine washable.

We first wrote about the idea to take our current Gulf Coast inspired designs and reproduce them onto bags in this previous post: Old Spice Brings New Spice (with Cajun Flavoring).
The polls we took suggested that these images might be popular to use: Pelican, Dolphin, Ducks, Sea Turtle, Tarpon, Shrimp & Oysters and Catfish and Crabs. Well, that happens to be most of them and although the Egret and the Blue Heron are also popular, they are unfortunately, too vertical to use for our Carryall.
We paired these with the most popular Crawfish Cotillion designs: white/blue, two-tone, yellow and green, along with some other ones previously mentioned in this Beach Wrap post.
We’ve shown how some of these images can be used: 1) to design your own mural, 2) as patterned wallcovering or 3) even used on a screen in the I Screen, You Screen post and now, 4) as a wearable Casart Carryall.
We hope these ideas will inspire you to help us with our Gulf Coast Recovery efforts. Stay tuned for the weblink announcement this week of our Casart Carryall page.
