Bellflower is the 3rd of 10 Color Predictions that we are highlighting.
Well, we’re at the huge High Point Market and my head is spinning. There is so much to see and so much to do. We have a plan but I hope we accomplish it. While I gather my thoughts and can write about the experience upon my return, here’s the third post in the series for Pantone’s color forecast for 2012. I’ll let you know if any of these colors are in the prototypes predicted for next year. How well manufacturers are adhering to Pantone’s predictions has yet to be determined.
Bellflower is the third selection in Pantone’s choice. It’s a soft lavender-blue with hints of lilac, we’ll just call it purple for ease. Purple Haze maybe, as all these colors seem a little reminiscent of the 60’s. Purple Haze was the name of my wonderful art teacher’s house. He was a free spirit but a fantastic teacher. I’m digressing into a haze…must be High Point.
I really like this soft color, as it is the color of my office and I also have bellflowers growing in my garden. I ran across a few examples of what magazines have shown with purple over the years. It’s interesting to me to go back and see how things have progressed and or reverted in the comparison with the present. Regardless, I think it is a serene color and can be timeless.

Interestingly, I found one of Mary Douglas Drysdale’s designs in Traditional Home’s 2000, March issue. I love the treatments on the cabinets and the pairing with yellow is perfect.

And a deep Bellflower – purple contrasted with white makes this work with fresh modern appeal, even though this was featured years ago.

If you want just a little pop of purple and not too much, go with Brian Patrick Flynn’s suggestion via his HGTV post Design Happens. While there, go to the next post down on Giant Wall Murals to see his nice mention of Casart Coverings. Décor Demon, as Brian is known, is one of our favorite interior design insightfuls — full of helpful insights dished up in a delightful and devilishly humorous way., plus we love his posts on Houzz.

Our modern take on purple is Mary Douglas Drysdale’s Whispers of Iris Signature Color.
