I just discovered an uncanny coincidence. Last week Completely Coastal posted a very nice entry about our trompe l’oeil shell mural elements. I initially took interest in the title because my ideal retirement spot would be a location where every day I could see, hear and even smell the ocean. Since Completely Coastal is an inspiration and shopping blog for people who love the sea, I was interested in learning more about its blogger. Maya, who is Swiss, lives in Tiverton, Rhode Island which isn’t too far from my son-in-law’s home town of Wickford. Maya’s home is a lovely Dutch Colonial with a water view. To my surprise, there was a picture of a door Maya had decorated with real shells and panels very similar to our Shell Door Panels! What a coincidence!

This design treatment would be ideal for any door or cabinet in a beach house or in a bathroom or a child’s room with a nautical theme. Click this link to a quick time-lapse, before and after installation of this faux linen room.
Casart Blue Faux Linen and Trompe l’Oeil Shell Elements
You can see some close ups in one of our earlier posts.
I redecorated my bedroom and bath last year using white and pale blues and greens. I have a collection of shells formerly displayed on shelves and acting as dust collectors. I found a lamp at Pottery Barn that has a clear glass base with a wide opening and arranged most of the shells inside. A few of the larger shells are still on open shelves, but accessories are pared down. I hung two seascapes by my sister-in-law who was a prolific artist. Three of the five paintings arranged around my bed feature scenes with water. Since I couldn’t find a twin sized headboard to my liking, I covered the glass of a picture frame with a blue faux linen Casart removable wallcovering. Now all I have to do is import the ocean’s sound to lull me to sleep at night! I’ll have to check to see is Completely Coastal has one of those machines with the sound of the surf.
