We are very pleased to welcome a guest blog post today from Studio M, a full service interior design firm located in Tampa, Florida.
Most of us realize that we are living in the middle of a technology revolution. It is amazing to think that only twenty years ago most of technology that we are using didn’t even exist. OK the “Zach Morris” large sized cell phone was around but the likes of email, Google, and even the laptop had yet to make its way onto the stage. Not to mention the explosion of social media over past few years, including but certainly not limited to Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.

Like many service based industries, interior design firms are beginning to incorporate social media and technology into their daily business practices. This is a very smart move! But don’t just take my word for it… Most successful entrepreneurs will tell you that the success of any business relies on innovation. And no I am not talking about creating the next “social network” but using the tools that technology has already provided us with!
Our Studio M Interior Design firm has recognized the benefits of not only technology but also using social media. The company’s President and Principal Designer Michelle Jennings Wiebe states “We have made a commitment to use technology and social media in all of our day to day business operations.”

She continues, “In fact our firm has recently purchased an iPad which we will now use to showcase our design portfolio to prospective clients. There is even an app that syncs directly to our billing software. This allows our designers to update client proposals, log design hours, and even track orders!”

In addition to the use of cool devices, Studio M Interior Design also relies heavily on social media for 99% of their marketing efforts. We use the phrase “organic or grass roots marketing” because we rely on our community and networking for much of our lead generation.
Each one of our employees is on Twitter, not to mention their daily Mpression blog posts and Facebook updates. Oh, and did I mention that they have just begun a new video blog series titled “Design Diaries?!” The firm’s first video?! An exclusive interview with none other than HGTV’s Selling New York star, Shaun Osher! So Cool…

Since adopting these new marketing strategies, the firm has seen a dramatic upswing in business. Furthermore, innovation has allowed us to stay ahead of the game; these two past years have been our best! It is important to note, however, that social media alone can only do so much for a design business…The key factor is providing great service partnered with quality design!
