We’ve always been fascinated by nature and art history. Our Nature Noticed collection is a combination of these two studied fields.
Nature Noticed Panel 1 is our first of several new designs that are currently being produced and we will add them here as they are completed. They comprise of sketches and refined illustrations from our nature journal. We have showcased them on a Gustavian-inspired, faux-paneled wall, as a gallery-display wall.
This display concept is much like the Dutch painters used in their 17 century “cabinet of curiosities” paintings, when there was great focus on nature, life and death. Objects of natural wonder were depicted in a hyper-realistic style with optical illusion. This was all a part of philosophical reflection on the life cycle. Collected “curiosities” of nature would cause one to reflect and remember man’s place in nature with spiritual meditation.
Rather than depict these illustrated observations in a traditional, trompe l’oeil style (one of our favorites), Casart Coverings has a modern take on this old-world depiction, with the effort on getting back to this type of observation of nature while in the present moment, pausing, being still, realizing life is fleeting and to enjoy and celebrate it with others while we can. Click to read more about our inspiration for our Nature Noticed designs and how drawing in-nature sketches for the designs was our way of communing with nature during the pandemic lock down.
The designs are offered in full panel sizes, 52″ w x 96″ (8′) h, as well as separated into four individual segments that are bookcase backing size, 52″ w x 48″ h each. These segments will allow you to use the design in smaller areas such as bookcase backings and backsplashes or even on a flat door to make it look paneled, but you can also mix and match and combine the designs in any order — not just as we have them on the full roll size.
There is a lot of flexibility with these Nature Noticed designs. You can create how you want them displayed and extend the width or the height with the various sections and sizes. We are offering this first set in a horizontal format with architectural panels that will have sketches as shown and as an architectural panel that will be sold separately in the Architectural Collection without any sketches. This way you can create full “faux” paneled walls and intermix the panels with the nature sketches.
UPCOMING: Click to see our large-scale Nature Noticed Garden Murals that will be added and can be used for an accent wall with just one 52″ wide roll or all four seasons can envelope a room in “surround-site” view.
Be on the lookout too for our coordinating Casart Décor accessory items that complement our Nature Noticed designs.
You can see other similar nature-oriented designs in our Sea Life and Botanical collections and by searching nature at this link. “Nature” can also be searched on each category and collection page from the Shop. You’ll find that most of our designs have this subject in mind.

Since the cabinet of curiosities was a precursor to the modern art museum, click here to read our “Let’s Get Buggy with It” blog post on the fabulous Wonder exhibit that reopened the Renwick Gallery in 2015 with Jennifer Angus’ incredible display of insect-studded walls. This is a perfect example of where nature’s grossest creatures (like BroodX Cicadas of the moment 🙂 ) can be truly fascinating and beautiful. This Wonder exhibit also propelled the Instagram craze as being the most photographed — at the time.
