I am departing from my usual Thursday post this week.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I&#8217;m in DC for Christmas. If you happen to fly in over Arlington National Cemetery you will see a sight you will long remember- fresh hand-made wreaths with red ribbons on the graves.\u00a0 If there is a new snow, it&#8217;s even more impressive.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9800\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9800\" style=\"width: 448px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9800 size-full\" title=\"arlington1\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/arlington1.jpg\" alt=\"Christmas at Arlington on casartblog\" width=\"448\" height=\"263\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/arlington1.jpg 448w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/12\/arlington1-300x176.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 448px) 100vw, 448px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9800\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Christmas at Arlington<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The fresh evergreens are a symbol used for centuries to recognize honor, and a living tribute renewed annually.\u00a0 For 20 years volunteers have placed the wreaths donated by the <a title=\"worchester-wreath-company\" href=\"https:\/\/www.worcesterwreath.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Worchester Wreath Company.\u00a0 <\/a>No balsam trees are cut down to make the wreaths.\u00a0 Only the tips of the branches are used and regenerate every three years.\u00a0 It began with 4,000 and last year 15,000 volunteers laid 90,000 wreaths at Arlington.\u00a0 Trucking companies volunteer to deliver the wreaths.\u00a0 In 2007 <a title=\"wreaths-across-america\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wreathsacrossamerica.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wreaths Across America <\/a>was established to facilitate the effort.\u00a0 There are 2.7 million military graves in the nation.\u00a0 Their goal is to place a wreath on each one.\u00a0 No government funds, no taxpayer money is used in this volunteer effort exemplifying the spirit of the season.<\/p>\n<p
