Having recently returned from a cruise to the Canary Islands from Barcelona with stops along the way at Malaga, Cadiz and Casablanca, I’d like to invite you to come along with me.\u00a0 This will be mostly pictures of the highlights.\u00a0 The Canary Islands (pronounced like Steinbeck’s Cannery Row, not the yellow bird) belong to Spain and sit off the northwest coast of Africa.\u00a0 They are formed from volcanic irruptions but at different periods of time so landscape and vegetation differs on each one.\u00a0 Barcelona, Malaga and Cadiz I’ll skip.<\/p>\n

Casablanca, Morocco<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yes, there’s a Rick’s Cafe but Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman didn’t get chummy there because the movie, Casablanca,<\/a> was filmed in Hollywood!<\/p>\n

Large slums with lots of TV dishes.\u00a0 Guide assured us they’d all be gone by 2014.\u00a0 Hmmm.\u00a0 Sounds familiar.<\/p>\n

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is home to Mt. Teide, Spain’s highest mountain.\u00a0 It also offers beautiful seascapes with black lava beaches.<\/p>\n

I know, all those Santa Cruzes\u00a0 and La Palma and Las Palmas\u00a0 get confusing, especially when you’re trying to remember what you saw and where!<\/p>\n
