It’s a new year.\u00a0 It’s time to freshen up the house with decorating decisions.\u00a0 But, you’re not sure what you want to do.\u00a0 Maybe you can glean some suggestions from the magazines.\u00a0 Veranda<\/a> has a bright cover with the subject, The Joy of Color<\/em> but when you thumb through the pages, there’s only one article with bright colors titled Haute Hues.<\/p>\n

Well, that’s not the only possibility.\u00a0 Country Living<\/a> is suggesting The New Way To Do Neutrals on the cover of their February issue with a cooking section on Mardi Gras fare.\u00a0 (I can forget that!) The pictures look fresh and clean, but very monochromatic…white, white, and more white.<\/p>\n

\"decorating<\/a><\/p>\n

Don’t give up.\u00a0 Keep looking.\u00a0 Maybe House Beautiful’s Makeovers <\/a>will spark an idea with their suggested decorating decisions.\u00a0 Hmmm…Living Room Re-Do in a Day and 10 colors with a twist sound interesting.\u00a0 Kevin West, the homeowner, wants a room where he can both entertain and work.\u00a0 He observes, “…the room is looking a little drab.\u00a0 The colors are muted, the fabrics are faded.\u00a0 The room needs more strength and contrast.”\u00a0 Sounds like he knows what he wants.\u00a0 The designer, Peter Dunham, notes that the room needs more flexibility but also needs to be more pulled-together.\u00a0 “The furniture is very much Paris-salon scale.\u00a0 Things should be bigger, more masculine and comfortable.”\u00a0 Sounds like he knows the direction to take.\u00a0 They begin at 8:30 and finish at 5:30.\u00a0 Kevin-“I want to throw a party to show it off.\u00a0 It’s totally transformed.”\u00a0 Peter-“And I’m totally exhausted.\u00a0 I’ll take a drink now.”\u00a0 I’m exhausted just reading the time line and looking at the pictures of the project!<\/p>\n

Some people go to extremes with their decorating decisions and focus on the colors of their local football team or their college’s colors.\u00a0 That’s one mistake I would never make.\u00a0 Especially after seeing back to back purple and gold of LSU and the Saints’ black and gold last weekend.\u00a0 No way!<\/p>\n

Still in a quandary?\u00a0 Can’t reach a decision?\u00a0 Consider changing just an\u00a0 accent wall.
