First Impressions of High Point Highlights<\/h2>\n

Ashley and I just returned from High Point Market<\/a> and I thought I’d share our first impressions. In its 85 years, I’ve concluded High Point has grown like Topsy into a maze of spaces and buildings.<\/p>\n

The 3rd floor terrace is a great place to get some rays as well as socialize at sunset.<\/p>\n

First impressions of our hotel was its location, location, location.\u00a0 We didn’t need shuttles, Hogs or pedicabs but I regret not packing a pedometer.\u00a0 Harley-Davidson<\/a> had a raffle in support of Susan G. Komen<\/a> and October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.\u00a0 The pink bears were cuddly and I got one for my granddaughter.<\/p>\n

We mapped out a plan of attack to cover as much ground as possible and see all the exhibitors we had flagged because you just CAN’T do it all!<\/p>\n

A surprise was seeing Traditional Home <\/a>opened to the page with Mary Douglas Drysdale’s Signature Colors<\/a> for us in a display at Currey & Company<\/a>.<\/p>\n

These models were attracting attention in a booth for a pillow company.<\/p>\n

A moment’s respite in the Coastal Living Collection booth helped refresh us.\u00a0 Only thing lacking was the sound of the ocean.<\/p>\n

It wasn’t all work.\u00a0 Every day ended with parties and live entertainment.\u00a0 Ashley attended the B52 concert with friends.\u00a0 I lasted 30 minutes at that.\u00a0 We attended a huge party at Hickory Chair’s show rooms with Mary Douglas Drysdale.\u00a0 Hickory’s president, Jay Reardon, was beaming about the pending birth of his first granddaughter and it was nice to have a non-business chat about the joys of grand-parenting.<\/p>\n

Back to work first impressions: we attended seminars including Leslie Carothers’ Breakfast in Bed with Leslie: Waking Up to the Power of Social Media <\/em>with clever staging, two presentations by Libby Langdon<\/a>, who is just as effervescent in person as on TV, and Tobi Fairley<\/a> offered a program on value-added interior design that was loaded with information.<\/p>\n
