Carre Part III Pied a&#8217; Terre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is my Vieux Carre part III post.<\/p>\n<p>Welcome to my Vieux Carre salon, as in the French word for living room or parlor and not necessarily, as in a gathering of literati.\u00a0 Being that access to the gallery was only through French doors in both bedrooms, I decided to turn the guest bedroom into a salon.\u00a0 Rarely did it see use for longer than an extended weekend so a good sofa bed served that purpose well.\u00a0 The house was built in 1830 so I wanted to stay true to the time period.\u00a0 I wanted to create a room that looked like it had evolved over the years from one generation to the next.\u00a0 We added parquet floors and covered them with a reproduction <a title=\"aubusson-rug\" href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/EBchecked\/topic\/42445\/Aubusson-carpet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aubusson<\/a> rug.\u00a0 Lace curtains covered the window and French doors and were held back with antique articulated drapery tiebacks so the French doors could function properly.\u00a0 Antique and reproduction pieces were mixed; antiques used where affordable, reproduction where not.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6916\" title=\"scan0020\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0020-e1316918290126.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"298\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6917 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre scan0021\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0021-e1316918388927.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Part III interior salon on casartblog\" width=\"294\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The fireplace was functional but really needed attention.\u00a0 I painted the mantel white and added a Tambour clock and bronze dore candlesticks.\u00a0 That recessed area to the right in the first picture became the perfect place to store the tall ladder which was necessary to change light bulbs, window air-conditioner filters and access the curtain rods on French doors.\u00a0 It was hidden by an antique screen with silk panels and mirrors.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6918\" title=\"scan0022\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0022-e1316918540996.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"297\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6919 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part III scan0023\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0023-e1316918634666.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Part III fireplace salon on casartblog\" width=\"297\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This little Louis XV chair was covered in a moss \u00a0green velvet when I found it in an antique shop on Magazine Street.\u00a0 I love <a title=\"toile\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Toile\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">toile <\/a>and the chair with some accent pillows was the perfect place to use it.\u00a0 The back of the chair was in a matching check.\u00a0 A camel back sofa bed, another cane backed Louis XV chair and a pair of white Proven\u00e7al side chairs completed the seating.\u00a0 All the accessories, such as books, prints, paper weight and kaleidoscope were all true to the period of the house.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6920\" title=\"scan0024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0024-e1316918767223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"309\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6921 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part III scan0025\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0025-e1316918879613.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Part III salon furniture on casartblog\" width=\"294\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6922\" title=\"scan0026\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0026-e1316918960436.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"287\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The bath just required some fresh paint to walls and cabinets.\u00a0 A niche in the wall opposite the brick wall was the perfect size for the Irish pine washstand.\u00a0 A mirrored multi paned window frame with a sheer curtain was hung on the brick wall to make the area feel more spacious.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6923\" title=\"scan0027\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0027-e1316919107172.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"302\" height=\"440\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6924\" title=\"scan0028\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0028-e1316919171624.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"296\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A cypress wrap around mantel, typically found in New Orleans homes in the 1800s was added in the second bedroom.\u00a0 A white wicker chair, simple white shades, a <a title=\"matelasse\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thefreedictionary.com\/Matelasse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">matelass\u00e9<\/a> coverlet and a white metal washstand from a convent brightened this room.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6925\" title=\"scan0029\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0029-e1316919327698.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"282\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yes, that is the face of a window air-conditioning unit and I have no idea what it was doing there!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6926 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part III scan0030\"
