Carre Pied a&#8217; Terre, Part II"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is my Vieux Carre part II Pied a Terre post.<\/p>\n<p>This is the condo\u2019s previous owner in the living room.\u00a0 She\u2019s very happy.\u00a0 She never lived in the unit.\u00a0 Right after purchasing it, a single home nearby on Washington Square became available.\u00a0 That was larger and nicer and she didn\u2019t need two French Quarter properties.\u00a0 The sale was good for her and good for us as she wanted to sell quickly.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6860\" title=\"scan0013\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0013-e1316735138735.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"305\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My idea was to keep furnishings simple and reasonably priced.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t want a major re-do.\u00a0 The ugly wall to wall carpeting came up and I was hoping to see old hardwood underneath.\u00a0 The floors were in poor condition with many patches and would have required lots of bucks to restore.\u00a0 During the early 1900s the houses in this area were used as warehouses to store grain and other goods.\u00a0 We laid plywood over the wood and installed wall to wall rich brown carpeting.\u00a0 That served 2 purposes:\u00a0 sound and temperature insulation and protection for the original floors if someone ever wanted to restore them.\u00a0 An old Oushak overlaid really brightened the room which was rather dark with 2 brick walls.\u00a0 Durable and inexpensive wicker chairs and a sofa bed in a rose colored linen added ample seating.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6861 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part II living room scan0014\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0014-e1316735229755.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Part II living room on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When this was a single family dwelling, there was a doorway to another room, in the left of this picture.\u00a0 It became the perfect place to display Carnival ball invitations and masks.\u00a0 One of my least favorite Audubon prints seemed to compliment the dark table and chairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6862\" title=\"scan0015\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0015-e1316735322115.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These 3 doorways between the living room, 2 bedrooms and small hall outside of the bathroom seemed awkward at first but after using the condo to accommodate 3 couples, I understood why they were there.\u00a0 Each room could have access to the bath without going through another room.\u00a0 Moral-live in a place a while before making changes you\u2019ll regret.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6863 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part II rooms scan0016\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0016-e1316735392564.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Part II rooms on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"278\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All the kitchen needed was a little paint-on the cabinets and over the wallpaper.\u00a0 This was long before <a title=\"Casart-Coverings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casart<\/a> added sensibility to wallpaper and I wasn\u2019t about to try to get that paper off!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6864\" title=\"scan0017\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0017-e1316735479738.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6865 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre Part II kitchen scan0018\"
