Terre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This is my first of three posts about my Vieux Carre Pied a&#8217; Terre in New Orleans, French Quarter.<\/p>\n<p>20+ years ago my husband and I decided it would be fun to spend a weekend as tourist in our own home town.\u00a0 Some big convention was that weekend and there wasn\u2019t a hotel room to be had in the <a title=\"french-quarter\" href=\"https:\/\/frenchquarter.com\/history\/shortquarterhistory.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">French Quarter<\/a>.\u00a0 I complained and my husband said, \u201cThe only way you\u2019re going to be assured of a place to stay in the Quarter is to rent or buy something.\u201d\u00a0 Well, that was like the light turning green!\u00a0 Our criteria included 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a balcony with a view and off street parking.\u00a0 We found a lovely 2 bedroom place with a big gallery located in the lower Quarter which is residential, not touristy.\u00a0 FYI, a gallery has upright supports from the sidewalk level while a <a title=\"balcony\" href=\"https:\/\/www.brainyquote.com\/words\/ba\/balcony134484.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">balcony<\/a> is supported only by trusses under the balcony floor which are attached to the building.\u00a0 What did we compromise on?\u00a0 It had only one bath and no parking.\u00a0 Here are some before and after pictures.\u00a0 Obviously, they are not staged and I took them for my own documentation of the process.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6838 size-full\" title=\"Vieux Carre scan0001\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0001-e1316571757422.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre pied a terre condo on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"297\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can see the difference between the bare unoccupied unit that we purchased and the occupied one on the right<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6858 size-full\" title=\"scan0012\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/scan0012-e1316735008821.jpg\" alt=\"View of Vieux Carre balconies on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"283\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Plants really help to soften the fa\u00e7ade but that Pepto Bismol color was retched.\u00a0 Angelina and Brad bought that white building to the left the year after we sold our condo.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6840\" title=\"scan0003\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0003-e1316572122456.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"281\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The expansive gallery is 8 ft. deep and 20 ft. wide and was what sold us on the property.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6841 size-full\" title=\"scan0004\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0004-e1316572282370.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre Gallery on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"284\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A nice little marble topped table and 2 antique French bistro chairs-just the place to enjoy morning coffee and croissants.\u00a0 Or perhaps a chat with Angelina and Brad!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6842\" title=\"scan0005\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0005-e1316572491969.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"440\" height=\"277\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Departing tenants didn&#8217;t bother to dispose of their dead plant.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6844 size-full\" title=\"scan0006\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan00061-e1316572737596.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre gallery view on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"279\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There, that&#8217;s better!\u00a0 Two sweet olives flank a topiary ligustrum and offer some screening from our neighbor.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6845 size-full\" title=\"scan0007\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/scan0007-e1316573287628.jpg\" alt=\"Vieux Carre courtyard on casartblog\" width=\"440\" height=\"286\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Most homes in the Vieux Carre enjoy an interior courtyard &#8212;
