Things lately in the economy look pretty tough but is there a resurgence on the horizon?\u00a0 I was elated to see the latest interior design market trends. These are positive results.<\/p>\n

Rarely do I report on technical, market trend stuff but when the housing market affects a lot of our businesses, I pay attention.<\/p>\n

The ASID<\/a>, Association of Interior Designers’ latest index report shows categories within the housing industry are starting to climb and show improvement. Wallcovering is one of them, with a resurgence of increase by 23%.<\/p>\n

Yesterday, the Columbus Dispatch<\/em> story, Bold and Beautiful: Rich Wall Treatments<\/em> by Jim Weiker, claims that, “From paint to paper, bold is back in wall treatments.<\/em>” Joy Coulter one of the interior designers quoted for the story, states, “We’re finding that people want something personal,” said Joy Coulter, a partner in Couture Design & Staging<\/a> in New Albany. “Rather than just doing traditional paint on the walls, they want to make the room come alive.” This is encouraging news. Several other interior designers were interviewed including Katie Hixon, who states,” Wallcovering pretty much died on the vine the last five or six years, but now it’s coming back.” And coming back to the fear of using wallcovering, the article mentions:<\/p>\n

Nancy Glenn, and interior decorator for the Parade of Homes, likes wallpaper but knows that it continues to suffer from a bad reputation – especially from anyone who has had to remove wallpaper that was improperly installed. “For the most part, buyers are afraid of wallpaper,” Glenn said. “They see it as old-fashioned and hard to remove. It’s not, but paint is safer.”<\/p>\n

Personally, once interior designers and others learn about repositionable wallcovering, like Casart coverings<\/a>, that is also removable and reusable — to boot, the fear of wallpaper will be moot. (Not trying to rhyme here, but heck.)<\/p>\n
