{"id":5410,"date":"2011-01-28T07:00:38","date_gmt":"2011-01-28T12:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/?p=5410"},"modified":"2026-01-08T17:14:42","modified_gmt":"2026-01-08T22:14:42","slug":"slow-slow-slow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/slow-slow-slow\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow, slow, slow!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reading the paper this morning at a leisurely, slow pace, there seemed to be a subliminal message to slow down and savor the moment.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"At Home with Marni Jameson\" href=\"https:\/\/www.marnijameson.com\/weekly-column\/at-home-with-marni-jameson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Marni Jameson<\/a>&#8216;s piece was about the slow movement in design.\u00a0 She contacted Eric Storm and Beth Meredith who are slow life designers and originators\u00a0 of CreateTheGoodLife.org.\u00a0 And what did I see when I visited their site?\u00a0 A beautiful Blue Morpho butterfly just like the one we use on <a title=\"Casart-coverings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casart Coverings&#8217;<\/a> web site.<\/p>\n<p>Slow Design differs from conventional design in several ways. The most notable difference is that it shifts the focus away from design for function or novelty to design for the well being of people and the planet.\u00a0 Their summation of slow design is to take your time decorating, buy locally, be natural, focus on function, seek simple solutions, make your home reflect who you are, and don&#8217;t wait until it&#8217;s finished to love it.\u00a0 &#8220;It&#8217;s not just about slowing down, it&#8217;s about living more simply, creating systems that reduce the clutter in your life, and decorating thoughtfully and with purpose,&#8221; they advised.\u00a0 Marni, who has a great sense of humor, then asked, &#8220;So if I create a slower home, will I be able to get more done&#8211;faster?&#8221;\u00a0 I think incorporating the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/about-removable-and-reusable-wallpaper\/removable-wallcovering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casart removable wallcovering<\/a> in your design plans surely fits the concept of slow design as it affords thoughtful, less complicated,\u00a0 purposeful decorating.<\/p>\n<p>Next was an article about a couple who built a practically maintenance-free wrap-around front porch made mostly from recycled materials.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/wrap-around-porch.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5432 size-medium\" title=\"wrap around porch\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/wrap-around-porch-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"Marni Jameson article on savoring slow pace referenced on casartblog\" width=\"300\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/wrap-around-porch-300x177.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/wrap-around-porch-1024x605.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/wrap-around-porch.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The floorboards look like weathered wood but are made from recycled milk jugs.\u00a0 The railing spindles are a composite.\u00a0 The columns are fiberglass and the post tops are metal.\u00a0 The shutters are aluminum.\u00a0 But, the rockers are made of wood.\u00a0 The owner says, &#8220;It&#8217;s more like an escape.\u00a0 I sit out here and listen to music, and you can be anywhere you want to be-the beach-anywhere.&#8221;\u00a0 Surely, that&#8217;s slow design!<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a small article touted burning man-made logs, which are cleaner to burn and simpler to use.\u00a0 <a title=\"duraflame logs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.duraflame.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Duraflame<\/a>, which I&#8217;ve used on rare occasions when it was too cold to lug in firewood, has a new log, Gold, that burns for 4 hours.\u00a0 The company says their logs are made from renewable resources and burn 80% cleaner than wood.\u00a0 Another new product is Enviro-Log which is made from 100% recycled waxed cardboard.\u00a0 It weighs 5 lbs. and burns cleaner and hotter than wood for 3 hours.\u00a0 The company enables grocery and retail stores to divert their used waxed-cardboard from landfills for conversion into clean-burning fire logs.\u00a0 That sounds like a good thing to me.\u00a0 Now all I have to do is curl up with a good book.\u00a0 Slow living!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a title=\"fireplace-with-casart-della-robbia\" href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/casart_Fireplace_DelRobGarlandWconcept_web.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5411\" title=\"casart_Fireplace_DelRobGarlandWconcept_web\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/casart_Fireplace_DelRobGarlandWconcept_web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"259\" height=\"389\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/casart_Fireplace_DelRobGarlandWconcept_web.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/casart_Fireplace_DelRobGarlandWconcept_web-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 259px) 100vw, 259px\" \/><\/a><em>&#8211;\u00a0 Lorre Lei<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Reading the paper this morning at a leisurely, slow pace, there seemed to be a subliminal message to slow down and savor the moment.
