{"id":4811,"date":"2010-11-05T07:00:38","date_gmt":"2010-11-05T11:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/?p=4811"},"modified":"2022-07-17T19:24:48","modified_gmt":"2022-07-17T23:24:48","slug":"friday-lagniappe-more-color","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/friday-lagniappe-more-color\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday Lagniappe&#8230;More Color"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ashley started the week about color, Lindsey continued with punching up color with lampshades, I&#8217;ll complete the week with some color lagniappe; a little something extra.<\/p>\n<p>What are they saying about color?\u00a0 Basically, you don\u2019t have to be intimidated by color, and especially bold colors.<\/p>\n<p>When <a title=\"Rachel-Reider -Interior-Designs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rachelreider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Rachel Reider <\/a>and Jamie Harper traded their Boston condo for a 1910 Victorian (visited in the November issue of <em>Better Homes and Gardens) <\/em>the architectural features were intact but the electrical, plumbing and insulation all had to be updated.\u00a0 That took a big chunk of their decorating budget.\u00a0 The solution?\u00a0 Ingenuity and color were the decorator\u2019s keys.\u00a0 Rachel selected wall colors to accent her furnishings.\u00a0 She didn\u2019t hesitate to match the dining room\u2019s aubergine banquette or the master bedroom\u2019s rich brown tables and rug.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4812\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-4812\" style=\"width: 366px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a title=\"rachel-reider-interior-design\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rachelreider.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-4812 size-full\" title=\"rachel-dining-crop\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/rachel-dining-crop.jpg\" alt=\"Rachel Reider Lagniappe of color interior design on casartblog\" width=\"366\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/rachel-dining-crop.jpg 366w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/rachel-dining-crop-264x300.jpg 264w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 366px) 100vw, 366px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-4812\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rachel Reider&#8217;s aubergine banquet and walls to match<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With a young toddler daughter, durability was a consideration in selecting fabrics.\u00a0 \u201cYou don\u2019t have to sacrifice style-durable but luxurious fabrics like faux leather and microsuede are kid-friendly in disguise\u201d says Rachel.\u00a0 I would add that a <a title=\"Casart Coverings\" href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/about-removable-and-reusable-wallpaper\/removable-wallcovering\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Casart wallcovering<\/a>\u00a0 is also durable and can be wiped of any little fingerprints of jelly or whatever.\u00a0 In the master bedroom, strong colors of blue\/ green accent pillows add the \u201cpop\u201d along with a blue trimmed lime green throw.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Rachel-Reider -Interior-Designs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/20-kirk-4-web-reider-bedroom.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4813 size-full\" title=\"20-kirk-4-web-reider bedroom\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/20-kirk-4-web-reider-bedroom.jpg\" alt=\"kirk-4-web-reider bedroom with Lagniappe of color on casartblog\" width=\"430\" height=\"415\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/20-kirk-4-web-reider-bedroom.jpg 430w, https:\/\/www.casartcoverings.com\/casartblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/11\/20-kirk-4-web-reider-bedroom-300x289.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rachel recognizes that \u201cPeople are nervous about using strong colors on walls, but this rich chocolate brown is warm and cozy to me, perfect for a bedroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the same issue of <em>Better Homes and Gardens<\/em>, New York designer Marlaina Teich dispels the trauma of trying to find the right golden yellow. She likes yellows that have subtle red or brown undertones because they are more compatible with other colors.\u00a0 She suggests taking a pillow or anything that will be in the finished room to narrow down your paint selection to the right one.\u00a0 If the paint color doesn\u2019t coordinate with the item, reject the color and select another.\u00a0 Marlaina\u2019s trick for accent walls-use different strengths of the same paint color.\u00a0 Have the paint store mix a 50\/50 combination of your golden yellow and white.\u00a0 Paint the full color on the wall opposite the entrance to the room so it draws you in.\u00a0 Use the 50\/50 lighter combination on the rest of the walls.\u00a0 Whenever she can, she tries to put a hint of the wall color on the ceiling to make the room feel more complete.\u00a0 But she warns, \u201cThe color will look darker on the ceiling , so cut it by 50 %. \u00a0 In a recent blog post about <a title=\"color-saves-teh-day\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Color-Saves-Day-Perfect-Palette\/dp\/158011475X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lucianna Samu&#8217;s latest decorating book by Creative Press, <em>Color Saves the Day, <\/em><\/a>Marlaina says, &#8220;I am so excited to be included in Lucianna&#8217;s book.\u00a0 The truth is that color can transform a space from the everyday to &#8220;TA DAA&#8221;.\u00a0 Paint, paper, pillows, passementerie! We&#8217;re riding a wave of people wanting to feel optimistic. That&#8217;s made people use brighter, more vibrant, cheerful colors in their homes.\u201d\u00a0 As to color trends, \u201cI see gray and yellow coming in. Yellow because of its luminosity. It gives an energetic boost and will replace orange, which was a hot color but is getting played out a little bit. Aside from black and white, the next color a baby sees is yellow,\u00a0 and I think that&#8217;s because we&#8217;re responding to the positive energy and vibrancy of the color.
