First, this update.\u00a0 I’ve spent two weeks in Tunisia, a north African country that could be considered third world in many aspects.\u00a0 Yet they recycle, irrigate and rotate crops.\u00a0 At the brand new Eden Palm museum in Tozeur,\u00a0 I learned every part of the date palm is used.\u00a0 Nothing is wasted.\u00a0 The fruit is used for jam and flavored “butters” in addition to dried packaged dates.\u00a0 The palm fronds are used for wood furniture, basket-weaving, sand retention fences like our snow fences, and thatch for roofing and for fuel.<\/p>\n

I returned to America, a world powerhouse nation, and what did I find?\u00a0 Nothing has changed here in two weeks or even four weeks.\u00a0 Oil is still exuding from the broken pipe into the Gulf waters and encroaching on gulf coast states’ shores.\u00a0 Fingers are being pointed in all directions and an investigative committee has been appointed.\u00a0 That’s what you do in government when you don’t have a solution to a problem.\u00a0 Officials can’t even reach a consensus on how much oil escapes every day.\u00a0 Well, never mind.\u00a0 Here’s a statistic that will stick in your brain forever.\u00a0 IT CAN TAKE FOUR PEOPLE WORKING 45 MINUTES AND USING 300 GALLONS OF WATER TO CLEAN JUST ONE BROWN PELICAN.<\/strong><\/p>\n
