As 2024 looms on the horizon, one of the most talked about topics is next year\u2019s design trends. 2023 was about symmetrical and detailed lines, iron accents, statement glass and mono-room fabrics. Will these survive into the new year?<\/p>\n

Here are upcoming design trends to consider when planning a major home renovation.<\/p>\n

1. Cool-Tone Neutrals Will Exit the Stage<\/h3>\n

Shades of gray, bright whites, taupe and ivory have had their time this year, but their popularity will dial down once the calendar turns to 2024. Biophilic design will be the general upcoming theme, driven by sustainability. Using natural elements to bring warmth to the home will gain popularity.<\/p>\n

People will opt for invigorating patterns and hues of rich terra cottas, browns and deep oranges that make them feel closer to nature. Earth-tone rugs, sofas and decorations will steal the scene in renovations. You can also accent your home with live plants<\/a>, s witch to natural materials and colors, and bring in more sunlight by installing large windows or sheer curtains. This brings comfort and creates a cozy, welcoming ambiance in your private space.<\/p>\n

2. Shiny Tones Will Take a Step Back
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

People are naturally drawn to anything glossy and smooth, and 2023 perfectly captures this in design, from furnishings to decorations. However, people will see a transition into textured, ridged materials next year. Brass tones must make room for warm pewter and anthracite finishes.<\/p>\n

Like diamonds, shiny things embody perfectionism. That’s why people want to move away from the perfect glossy tones and complementing textures to settle with imperfectionism.<\/p>\n

It will be replaced by contrasting materials, producing a layered and textured style that’s flawed yet exudes natural beauty. This preference change adheres to the overall biophilic design many are excited to implement next year.<\/p>\n

3. Light, Bright Wood Tones Will March Out<\/h3>\n

Hardwood has been the preferred flooring choice for elevated home areas like the dining room, bedroom and living room. The trend will continue in 2024, but darker tones will take center stage.<\/p>\n

Lighter wood tones have been the go-to wood finish and have taken over homes for decades as they’re easy on the eyes and make the space more open. Hardwood floors with light undertones like red oak, white oak and hickory mute the contrasting elements in the room and create a sense of serenity.<\/p>\n

In 2024, darker wood tones will make their comeback to channel a sense of sophistication and drama. Traditional styles will be revived, so expect rich and darker hardwood tones to be the craze. The richness and strength of walnut, mahogany and cherry floors contradicting a light wall provide a sophisticated look.<\/p>\n

4. Linear Vanities Will Tone Down<\/h3>\n

Linear vanities have been the central element of 2023, creating a sense of order and organization in the bathroom. Clean and straight lines were the dominating features, from the typical rectangular mirror to the square sink. They emphasize a simple aesthetic, which will ease off in 2024.<\/p>\n

Next year, round shapes and comforting curves will be the centerpiece of home design. Arched vanity mirrors will beautifully combine with other linear elements, giving a soft, sophisticated home feel. Fortunately, organic curves are versatile to blend into any existing interior design, so you can make upgrades without starting from scratch. Linear styles won’t wholly make their exit but are muted for curves to stand out.<\/p>\n

Apart from round shapes, fractal designs will also be a craze. These geometric looks add dimension and depth to a space. Fractals are a significant pattern in flowers, trees, shells, snowflakes and river deltas and align with the natural motif. You\u2019ll see these designs in home decorations, accent pieces and furniture.<\/p>\n

5. Loud and Bold Luxury Will Backslide<\/h3>\n

From fashion to interior design, the trend in 2023 screams luxury right in the face. However, it will start regressing as people have had enough loud displays. Quiet luxury will kick in.<\/p>\n

Minimalism is a shared concept between quiet luxury and sustainability, and more people will buy into this idea in the next year. Individuals will change their design preferences as environmental concerns move to the forefront, opting for comfort instead.<\/p>\n

In action, this looks like investing in high-quality materials that look effortlessly luxurious yet environmentally friendly.<\/p>\n

6. Industrial Style Will Not Make It<\/h3>\n

Home features like high ceilings and concrete floors, reflecting an industrial style, will likely not move on to 2024 as they oppose the primary natural theme. Its elements are closer to modern design, which is not what people want to go for in 2024.<\/p>\n

This year may be the end of clean lines, neutral monochromatic colors, exposed pipes, and brass or glass fixture finishes, which are features of an industrial-style home. People will move to environmental patterns and pieces made of natural materials and colors in line with the biophilic motif. They will cultivate cozier and more inviting vibes in their private spaces, which is achieved by adapting the laid-back characteristics of nature into furniture, materials and home interiors.<\/p>\n

7. Fast Furniture Will Lose Its Appeal<\/h3>\n

Mass-produced furniture has made its way into nearly all American homes because it\u2019s practical, aesthetic and functional. However, the fast furniture trend will fall out of favor<\/a> due to increasing sustainability awareness.<\/p>\n

The concept of caring for the planet will spur a change in people’s buying behaviors, including in their furniture choices. They will shift into purchasing quality, artist-made dressers, sofas, tables and chairs. These are usually made locally, so they take a smaller carbon footprint to produce and last longer than fast furniture.<\/p>\n
