Maybe 2014 is the year of surprises?\u00a0 I opened up my local Washington Post<\/em> newspaper the other day (yes, I still read the hard copy) and there was an interview with our own\u00a0 Libby Langdon<\/a> in the House Chat<\/em> with Jura Konicus. This is an online chat session that takes place on Thursdays when the Local Living<\/em> section is published. It usually features a designer in the print edition where anyone can ask a question. Libby had been featured earlier this past fall but this was an excerpt from that online session.<\/p>\n

The poster asked the question about wall art, “Libby, I want to make some kind of art for my walls because I cannot afford the good stuff and I cannot find it in the colors to match my decor. What can I make?”<\/p>\n

Libby responded, “What I’m loving right now is taking natural objects – like a sea fan, starfish, agate stone, pressed botanicals, etc. and hot gluing them on a linen background. Frame these items with big mats. A good frame suggestion is the Ribba frame from IKEA because it allows space within the frame for items that are dimensional. You’re using nature as your decor!!”<\/p>\n

There’s a lot more to the discussion here but I could easily see Casart as a linen-look background to help frame Nature’s treasures. Rather than permanently mount these pieces, I’d try Velcro in an unobtrusive spot on the backside. The reason is our coverings are removable and reusable and could easily be changed out, along with the item you’re framing, with the seasons.<\/p>\n

I got a little curious so I tested a few concepts for how this might work using our Casart Faux Linen wallcoverings<\/a> and a single sea fan, since I love items from the sea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I couldn’t decide between White Faux Linen or Celadon. Since winter can be rather bleak, you may want to add some color.<\/p>\n

Spring should be bright and cheery. Therein, our Pink or punch it up a notch with Lipstick Plus one of Mary Douglas Drysdale’s Signature Colors <\/a>for wow factor.<\/p>\n

But spring is also full of fresh air and we have our version with Light Blue.<\/p>\n

I think of the Yellow sun for summer.<\/p>\n

And fall colors of course for fall. I’m liking our Orange a lot with this concept.<\/p>\n

But you might want even more contrast, so go with Coffee + it will help rouse you up when the sun gets low in the sky this time of year.<\/p>\n

And then we’re back to winter…why not alternate with something new like Lavender.<\/p>\n

There’s a lot you can do with just small amounts of reusable wallcovering. Now, I think 2014 is the year of possibilities.<\/p>\n
