Designer Liz Caan <\/a>was tasked with brightening a dark, wood-wrapped room featured in the October issue of Better Homes and Gardens<\/a>.\u00a0 Her solution? Color added via paint, pattern and furnishings that would add new life to a living area for a family with five children and two dogs!\u00a0 Cann says, “Individual colors are bold, but the overall room palette is restrained to blues, greens and black and white.”\u00a0 The walls, built-ins and trim were all painted the same blue to show-case the architecture.\u00a0 Lighter accent colors were used on pillows, lamps, drapes, art and some of the furniture but not that sofa which you know is going to see heavy duty from the kids!\u00a0 But just look at the compliment added to the blue sofa in those lime green chairs.\u00a0 Caan further brightened the room with metallic accents-gold table legs and brass lamps and sconces.<\/p>\n

The gray ceiling and rug are perfect foils for the dark blue walls.\u00a0 Says owner Judy Hefferman, “We wanted to brighten it up–to make it feel like a fun, youthful space, not an old library.”\u00a0 And Liz Caan met their goal.<\/p>\n
