We all love to dream. I was blown away by Anne Harris’ dreamy getaway murals in that they allow you to dream and be transported without going anywhere. It’s the most economical luxury “trip” that lasts and that you can take whenever you want by just walking into her incredible interior spaces. She envelops the room with her murals. They are classically painted in the style of Old Master works. Loving Art History, I can see aspects of Gainsborough, Carravagio’s still-lifes, and Claude Lorrain’s landscapes among other influences. She’s been painting for 30 years and her first client was Charlotte Moss. What an nice entreé into high society and to those who can appreciate and afford such beautiful and luxurious painting.
What I was most taken with, is not only her talent, but her ability to play up the scale of her painting. It’s the largeness of these still lifes that make all the difference in this dining room. They completely make the space memorable and magical. If you were having dinner here, you would not forget it.
She’s also wise to paint on canvas. In fact this was the impetus of how Casart got its start. I had clients asking for more artwork on canvas. It was practical in that I could work in my studio and not be under their feet or in the way of their space by working on site, which could take weeks. Also, works on canvas allowed for the murals to be removed and kept rather than painted over. Can you imagine these masterpieces being painted over? Being a practical person, I then started thinking why just murals on canvas? Why not decorative painting and all artwork for that matter on removable and reusable wallcovering? Casart — art for your home — was born.
Now I wonder if Anne Harris would consider her artwork on Casart? Others could enjoy her remarkable talent and be able to get away through her murals gracing their own environments. I love the subtle and subdued coloring in this bedroom bringing sweet dreams for sure.
